$40/hour

PROOFREAD

I'll take a close look at your piece to find typos, spelling errors, basic grammar errors, and incorrect punctuation. A proofread does not address larger grammar and sentence structure problems.

$50/hour

COPYEDIT

I will read your piece closely to capture spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, clarity, readability, and redundancy. This is for a single project only; organizations, please see the box at right.

$57/hour

ORGANIZATIONAL RATE

If you are representing a corporation or nonprofit organization, at this rate you can hire me as an ongoing contractor, and I'll handle ad hoc projects for you whenever you need them.

How Long Will My Project Take?

For a copyedit, I work at the rate of about 1 hour for every 1,000-1,500 words. So if you have a 5,000-word piece, that will take approximately five hours.

I can only work four hours a day for a specific client. So if you have a 25,000-word piece, that's 25 hours over seven days. This estimate includes reference formatting.
A proofread takes a shorter amount of time, about 2,000-2,500 words per hour.

Someday I will have a fancy calculator on this site that will estimate times and prices for you, but until then, I hope this is helpful!
